Hyannis is actually a part of the Villages of Barnstable in the central part of the Cape on the southern coast. It was made famous during the Kennedy presidency, and is now home to the John F. Kennedy Museum. Hyannis is one of the busiest areas of the Cape, especially in the summer. It is home to the Cape Cod Maritime Museum and the Cape Cod Melody Tent, as well as over 30 places of worship, and literally hundreds of places to eat, stay or play. The Cape Cod Melody Tent is great for children and adults. With name entertainers, excellent plays for children, and close-in seating, the Melody Tent can offer some fun, indoor entertainment. We suggest you buy tickets before leaving home, as they usually sell out in advance. One of the more unusual museums is located in Hyannis Port - the Toad Hall Classic Sports Car Collection - over 50 classic cars - and they are all red! Another form of transportation can be experienced on the Cape Cod Central Railroad. On these nostalgic train excursions you can enjoy elegant meals, "Murder on the Cape Cod Express", family fun trips and even Easter dinner. Hyannis does offer its quiet areas and small town ammenities if you get away from the center and toward the beaches or north of town. But much of Hyannis is definitely a different side of the Cape than most other regions. More people, more night life, more traffic, more everything! That's Hyannis in a nutshell.
